Medical

Shake Shack offers four comprehensive medical plans through UnitedHealthcare: three Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans with copays and one high deductible plan (HDHP) that can be paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA):

  • HDHP with HSA
  • Basic Plan
  • Plus Plan
  • Premier Plan

All four medical plans have in- and out-of-network coverage, cover the same medical services, and cover in-network preventive care at no cost. Shake Shack offers coverage for domestic partners and dependents under the medical plan options.

Save Money by Staying in Network

Visiting providers who are part of the UHC Choice Plus network can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs.

Which Medical Plan is Right for Me?

When selecting a medical plan, you’ll want to consider whether you want to pay more out of your paycheck and less when you receive care, or less out of your paycheck and more when you actually receive care. The descriptions below can help you choose the plan that makes the most sense for you and your family:

High Deductible Health Plan with HSA
• Affordable premiums
• Value shoppers
• Generally healthy, low utilizers
• Financially-strategic members who want to minimize taxable income
• Members willing to take on the risk of a higher deductible and sharing in the cost of care through coinsurance after meeting the deductible
Basic Plan
• Affordable premiums
• More risk-averse – copays for certain services with no deductible, but high deductible for other services, which you must meet before sharing in the cost of care through coinsurance
• Those who just want coverage for the lowest premium
Plus Plan
• Risk-averse members who want substantial coverage
• Cost-conscious but willing to pay for the comfort of a richer plan
• Moderate healthcare users
Premier Plan
• Risk-averse members who want substantial coverage
• Will pay any cost in order to have the richest plan
• Heavy healthcare users

Preventive Care

When you make time for an annual check-up, you’re taking control of your wellbeing and making the most of your benefits. Preventive care keeps you healthy and helps keep out-of- pocket medical expenses low. If you are covered under one of Shake Shack’s medical plans, in-network preventive care is at no cost to you! Examples of preventive care include:

  • Vaccinations
  • Annual physicals
  • Biometric screenings
  • Pregnancy care
  • Age-related cancer screenings
Understand Medical Plan Lingo

We know not everyone understands the lingo, so here are some important terms to know as you decide which medical plan to choose, as well as how to use it during the year:

  • Copay: A copay is the fixed amount you pay for a covered health care service (e.g., a primary care physician’s office visit or an emergency room visit).
  • Deductible: Your annual deductible is the amount you pay for office visits, prescription drugs, and other covered services before your plan begins sharing the cost.
  • Coinsurance: Coinsurance is the percentage you and your plan each pay when you’re sharing costs. Coinsurance kicks in after you meet your annual deductible.
  • Out-of-Pocket Maximum: The most you pay in a year for health care services is called the out-of-pocket maximum. After you reach the out-of-pocket maximum, the plan covers 100% of eligible services for the remainder of the plan year.

Covered at 100%

Annual physicals, routine screenings, and many preventive services are covered at no cost* when you see an in-network provider.

*Additional cost may apply when non-preventive care services are ordered. Confirm that your physician submits the claim as a preventive care visit.
